The catalog La Tourette: Dialogue(s) accompanies the exhibition presented at the Couvent Sainte-Marie de La Tourette, Le Corbusier's architectural masterpiece, from September 17 to November 1, 2010. This exhibition brings together three contemporary artists: Vera Molnar, Stéphane Couturier, and Ian Tyson, who have been invited to engage in dialogue with the venue through their respective mediums: drawing, photography, video, and sculpture.
The exhibition is organized around three artistic themes, each responding in a unique way to the space, light, and architecture of the convent:
- The algorithmic drawings of Vera Molnar, a pioneer of digital art, explore geometry in resonance with the structural rigor of Corbusian architecture. Her compositions, both systematic and poetic, interact in particular with the stained glass windows designed by Iannis Xenakis.
- Stéphane Couturier's photographs and videos translate the convent into a series of constructions in motion. His practice captures the tensions between architectural permanence and perceptual transformation, playing on lines, colors, and temporalities.
- Ian Tyson's works, combining sculpture, typography, and installation, take over the raw volumes of the convent. Through a sensitive approach to matter and light, he offers a graphic reading of space that is both minimalist and contemplative.
The catalog brings together critical essays by Vera Molnar, Ian Tyson, Stéphane Couturier, Christine Blanchet, Damien Sausset, and Brother Marc Chauveau.
