Drawing Now Paris 2026: Philippe Cognée and Jean-Pierre Pincemin, a dialogue through drawing and works on paper

Galerie Oniris is delighted to take part in the 19th edition of Drawing Now Paris, the international contemporary art fair exclusively dedicated to drawing, taking place from March 25 to 29, 2026, at the Carreau du Temple in Paris. For this new edition, the gallery will present, at booth C15, a selection of works on paper by two major figures of the French art scene: Philippe Cognée and Jean-Pierre Pincemin. This presentation highlights the graphic explorations of both artists through a dialogue between their works on paper. It offers an opportunity to discover drawing as a space for experimentation, artistic reflection and painterly memory, where gesture, materiality and the construction of images intersect.

Drawing Now Paris 2026: Contemporary Drawing in the Spotlight

Founded in 2007, Drawing Now Paris is Europe's first contemporary art fair exclusively dedicated to drawing. Every year, it brings together French and international galleries at the Carreau du Temple, in Paris's Marais district, showcasing contemporary artistic creation and its many graphic expressions. In spring 2026, Galerie Oniris will participate for the eleventh time in this major event devoted to contemporary drawing. This longstanding commitment reflects the gallery's continued interest in artistic practices exploring paper, line, colour and the expressive possibilities of drawing.

Philippe Cognée and Jean-Pierre Pincemin: Two Distinct Approaches to Drawing

For Drawing Now Paris 2026, Galerie Oniris presents a dialogue between works on paper by Philippe Cognée, the featured artist at the booth, and Jean-Pierre Pincemin. This selection reveals the richness and diversity of their artistic explorations, while highlighting shared concerns in their approaches to materiality, gesture and creative processes. Drawing occupies a central place in this presentation. Far from being limited to preparatory work or studies for paintings, it becomes, for each artist, an autonomous space for expression and research. Paper serves as a medium for experimentation, where forms, tensions and balances take shape, revealing drawing as an artistic practice in its own right.

Philippe Cognée: Drawing as a Space for Artistic Experimentation

The works on paper by Philippe Cognée offer another perspective on the practice of an artist renowned for his explorations of images, perception and the transformation of reality. In this selection presented by Galerie Oniris, the works invite viewers to pay particular attention to the material qualities of the medium and to the relationship between gesture and image. Drawing emerges as a privileged field of research in which the artist explores the possibilities of constructing and transforming representation. This presentation therefore offers an opportunity to discover an essential aspect of his work: his practice on paper, which is fully integrated into his artistic thinking while maintaining a dialogue with his wider body of work.

Jean-Pierre Pincemin: Freedom of Gesture and Formal Exploration on Paper

The works on paper by Jean-Pierre Pincemin reflect the diversity of his artistic investigations and his interest in questions of form, materiality and composition. An artist associated with a questioning of traditional categories of painting, Jean-Pierre Pincemin developed a distinctive approach grounded in experimentation and the renewal of artistic languages. His works on paper reveal this freedom of exploration through a direct relationship with gesture, the construction of images and the possibilities offered by the medium. Within the dialogue proposed by Galerie Oniris, his work resonates with that of Philippe Cognée, while asserting its own distinctive approach to drawing and its formal concerns.

Philippe Cognée and Jean-Pierre Pincemin: A History of Artistic Dialogue

The relationship between Philippe Cognée and Jean-Pierre Pincemin is rooted in a shared artistic and intellectual history. Former colleagues and teachers at the École des Beaux-Arts in Angers in the early 1990s, the two artists maintained an ongoing intellectual and artistic exchange until Jean-Pierre Pincemin's death in 2005.

This relationship, founded on mutual recognition and an in-depth artistic dialogue, offers valuable insight into both the connections and the differences between their respective practices. Although their approaches reflect distinct sensibilities, they share a particular attention to creative processes, experimentation and the materiality of the artwork. Drawing thus becomes a privileged field through which to observe both their affinities and their differences.

The juxtaposition of their works on paper at Drawing Now Paris 2026 offers an opportunity to place two artistic journeys, two approaches to creative practice and a shared reflection on the possibilities of visual language into perspective.

Works on Paper at the Heart of Galerie Oniris's Presentation

By bringing together Philippe Cognée and Jean-Pierre Pincemin at booth C15, Galerie Oniris aims to highlight the importance of drawing in contemporary artistic practice. The works on display invite visitors to consider paper not simply as a support, but as a creative space in its own right. Between intuition, formal rigour, painterly memory and experimentation, drawing reveals its full autonomy and its ability to renew the way we look at artworks. This selection offers a special opportunity to discover or rediscover two artists whose explorations continue to enrich contemporary thinking on painting, drawing and artistic practices on paper.
