On the occasion of its first participation in the prestigious Art Basel art fair, to be held in Basel in mid-June, Oniris is celebrating a major milestone in its history, in the run-up to its 40th anniversary this coming September.

As part of the Art Basel international art fair’s initiative dedicated to art in the digital age, titled “Zero 10,” Oniris is partnering with Interface Gallery to present a solo exhibition by the French-Hungarian artist Vera Molnar, titled “When Algorithms Draw: The Vision of Vera Molnar.” This selection highlights her relationship with abstract geometry as well as her computer-generated drawings from the 1970s, now considered precursors to contemporary digital practices, particularly NFTs.

As one of the first academically trained artists to turn to the creation of algorithmic images, Vera Molnar’s presentation will highlight the central role of coding in her practice, emphasizing how algorithmic thinking can become a powerful vehicle for artistic expression.

In conjunction with the exhibition art fair, Molnar’s solo exhibition at the Kunstmuseum Basel, “Vera Molnar. Possibilities,” presents prints by the grande dame of computer art.

About Zero 10

Zero 10 is a global initiative by Art Basel dedicated to exploring the ever-evolving relationship between art and technology. Its name pays homage to “0.10,” the groundbreaking exhibition organized by Kazimir Malevich in 1915. Drawing inspiration from this avant-garde legacy, Zero 10 highlights new forms of artistic creation by bringing together artists, galleries, technologists, and cultural actors from the contemporary digital ecosystem.

Through works based on code, algorithmic systems, immersive installations, robotics, light, and sound, Zero 10 accompanies the transformations of the art world in the digital age, shaped by new technologies, new audiences, and new forms of participation.

For its third edition following Miami and Hong Kong, Zero 10 makes its debut at Art Basel in Basel in an expanded and more open format, bringing together 20 exhibitors and a selection of the most innovative artists from the contemporary digital scene. Curated by internationally renowned artist Trevor Paglen and digital art specialist Eli Scheinman, the initiative will take over the Event Hall on Messeplatz, alongside the Art Basel Conversations program.
