Exhibition Pierre Antoniucci, Hip-hop Disjunction
February 5 to May 27, 2026
"Hip Hop Disjunction" is the title given by Pierre Antoniucci to these new assemblages, in which contemporary works are layered around three older pieces. Inspired by a hip-hop dance performance the artist observed at the Centquatre in Paris, he began to depict the dancers’ movements. The exhibition is centered around two chapters titled "Everything Falls" and "Everything Spins". The hip-hop and breakdance dancers fall to the ground and bounce back up. Their invisible and secret partner is thought.
Although not explicitly stated, movement has always been a central theme in Pierre Antoniucci’s work (horses, circular studio, vortex…). This time, he clearly sets the subject on his canvas (the canvas and the cardboard): He opts for dance, and more specifically Hip Hop, which is popular by nature. A street dance made up of breaks and re-assemblies. He emphasizes that “Break,” the foundation of Hip Hop dance, means to break. He finds pictorial resonances in its broken rhythms and draws on the dancers’ energy to fuel the vitality of his painting, which becomes, in his words, “transgenerational.”
