The other Museum

Frac Bretagne - Rennes

FROM OCTOBER 13, 2023 TO JANUARY 14, 2024

In 2023, the Fonds régionaux d'art contemporain celebrates its 40th anniversary! Founded in 1981, the Frac Bretagne has been building up a nationally and internationally recognized collection of contemporary art for four decades. Often overlooked by the general public, the collection includes over 5,500 works by more than 1,500 artists of over 125 nationalities.

The exhibition L'autre musée, les trésors d'une grande collection d'art contemporain (The other museum, treasures from a great contemporary art collection) is an opportunity to highlight and showcase the hidden treasures of this Breton heritage.

Among these treasures are, of course, the great names of French and international art, such as Pierre Soulages, Vera Molnar, Martha Rosler and Andy Warhol, whose work Frac Bretagne was able to acquire at a time when the art market still allowed it. But there are also many other artists, younger or less renowned, whose works, as fascinating as they are delicate, describe and problematize our world.

The exhibition has no theme. Above all, it is a display of works representing both the main thrusts of the Frac Bretagne collection and the diversity of art forms over the last forty years. Abstract painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, installations, artists' books and video all feature in the work of some sixty artists from all horizons

All these abundant treasures are part of a common heritage that Bretoners will have the opportunity to discover during this anniversary exhibition.
