EXHIBITION: DEGREES OF DISRUPTION: VERA MOLNAR AND GENERATIVE AR

From October 16, 2026, to May 30, 2027, the Victoria & Albert Museum in London is dedicating a major exhibition to Vera Molnar, a pioneer of computer art and a key figure in generative art. Titled “Degrees of Disruption,” the exhibition brings together more than 50 works that demonstrate how the artist used algorithms, chance, repetition, and geometry to explore the possibilities of artistic creation.
Through works created by hand or with the aid of machines, Vera Molnar developed a practice rooted in algorithmic thinking and experimentation from the very beginnings of computing. Her work notably explores the tension between rules and chance, as well as the possibilities offered by generative systems in artistic creation.
The exhibition “Degrees of Disruption” also highlights Vera Molnar’s enduring influence on contemporary digital and generative artists. Her research, conducted long before the rise of today’s digital technologies, resonates today with practices in algorithmic creation, computer art, and generative art.
Presented in the free section of the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, this exhibition offers a glimpse into several decades of artistic experimentation and demonstrates how Vera Molnar’s ideas continue to influence contemporary digital creation.
