Overview

French photographer Joël Denot was born in 1961

He lives and works in Uzès

His work has been exhibited at the Oniris gallery since 2009

In the opposite of a photograph that seeks to represent reality (or to transfigure it, which amounts to the same thing), Joël Denot's shots focus on the essential elements of photography: light, colour and the relationship to time.

Entirely made at the shooting, they reveal with a purely photographic gesture, without laboratory work. Alternating large cibachromes, always produced in a single print, and smaller snapshots.

Since 1991, Joël Denot has been pursuing research on photography. Entirely realized at the time of the shooting, it is a purely photographic gesture. He elaborates his shots from different light intensities, from a controlled and coloured light to a saturated light that dissolves the colour in the white.
