Marie-Thérèse VACOSSIN : stories of grey

Overview

"Stories of Grey (Histoires de gris)", Marie-Thérèse Vacossin's fourth personal exhibition in Rennes, plunges you into her latest research on the vibration of colours and the rhythms of composition.

For several decades, Marie-Thérèse Vacossin (born in Paris and now living in Basel), has been pursuing a very consistent work for her 90th birthday. At once conceptual in her method, that of "concrete art", her work is rooted in an "impressionist" pictorial tradition. It is a painting where rationality and feeling are in balance.

Marie-Thérèse Vacossin's works are the result of a patient research, which goes through a study of composition in pencil and colour charts: small strips of paper painted and glued on small supports. This step is essential and constitutes the heart of her work in order to obtain a work that meets her requirements.

Superimpositions, modulations, the plastic organisation of colours create movements: from front to back, from top to bottom, from inside to outside: the works (paintings or Plexiglas) play in space, with space.olour is an infinite problem. It is an energy that is sensitive to the extreme, that has its own demands, and can only be revealed through its intense relationships with others: contrasts, tensions, chords, harmonies, modulation, movements, ... Colours call out to each other, react, radiate" - M.T.V.
