Soo-Kyoung LEE: Yo I Tang

For the first time, the Oniris Gallery presents the work of Soo-Kyoung Lee with an exhibition of his recent works: paintings, paintings on wood and works on paper.

Soo-Kyoung Lee's work is deliberately spontaneous and informal. No preparatory study precedes the making of a painting or drawing. Each painting is the result of a series of steps orchestrated by a free, moving gesture.

"In the time of the pictorial ordeal, I am in front of a blank surface as if facing the void, in a dead end. The hours go by without anything happening; I see nothing, then suddenly a surge... In the course of the work, thinking and acting are simultaneous. Thought gradually reveals itself in the action of painting. The gap between thinking and seeing is narrow. One action leads to another, the colours confront and harmonize in a path that leads to the work." SK Lee

The exhibition is entitled "Yo I Tang", a Korean onomatopoeia used to give the impetus for the start of a race. This signal marks the beginning of this new collaboration, expanding the gallery's list of "new generation" artists.
